Dinner at SawGrass and Big Fish

After our ride, untacking the horses, washing down the horses, worming the horses, and changing in to some more comfortable clothes we gathered under Papa's new porch roof and awaited the chicken Papa was smoking for us.

Papa telling us about his experiences with a pedicure appointment Mom set up for him. He has extremely ticklish feet so he would jump when ever she touched his feet. He asked his pedicurist if she has ever known anyone more ticklish and in her broken English she said No, no and giggled then started talking to her pedicurist neighbors in Chinese… I wonder what they say? :)

Tyler (middle) and his friends, Caleb and Robin after fishing in the Big Catfish Pond in the back of the property. Check out the 6 pounder in Tyler's left hand! WOW!! :)

Meow is a hunter! We have had little to no problems with mice since Papa brought him to the farm a little over a year ago.

Meow loves attention and Wes gave him a lot! I think Wes really wanted to take him home! :)

me, Leah, and Codie awaiting the yummy chicken feast!

Papa cooked us a delicious meal! Smoked chicken, cabbage, potato, baby carrots and buttered garlic bread... my mouth is watering just reminiscing our yummy dinner!

Headed back to t-town!
What a fun day!

A Wet SawGrass and a Tombstone

One murky late Saturday morning Leah and I headed to Tuscaloosa to meet Codie and Wes at Taco Casa for some yummy lunch (two combo burritos with extra sour cream, sopapias and a large Mt. Dew). Papa called while we were waiting to let us know that he was for sure going to join us for our ride. YEAH!! I love riding with Papa b/c he always takes us off the trails (I wish I could do this more but I have no sense of direction and don't know the land near as well as he does).

After getting the horses saddled up and ready we headed west for the day's ride.

After riding a ways Papa asked if we'd like to take a break and see something he found pretty recently off the beaten path.

The horses taking a breather.

Although Gainesville, AL is not a big city today it is in the Black Belt and before the Civil War it was very prosperous with many plantations. Within the acres of SawGrass there are 2 slave houses that are still standing.

[A bit of history; Gainesville, AL is where the last Confederate army surrendered, weeks after Lee had surrendered and Lincoln had been assassinated. ]

Part of the original tombstone is that buried light rock covering the date. The tombstone was replaced with the original inscription a few years ago. It reads "In memory of Anthony, a faithful servant and an honest man, died April 26, 1862." Because there is no last name on the tombstone and the servant reference we came up with our own conclusion that this is where a slave of this plantation beside SawGrass was buried.

Codie, Wes, and Leah listening to Papa sharing some Gainesville history.

Codie, Wes, and Papa watching Leah's true reaction. :)
I don't know the names of these purple blooming trees but they were all over SawGrass. Enjoy the scenery we took in and notice how wet and flooded some of the paths were in the next few pics! :)

(this is my favorite tree!)

The Day I Taught Clint the Back Tuck

While awaiting Walmarts' call letting us know my new tires are on and my car is ready for pick up we went to Uncle Andy and Aunt Teresa's house for dips, burgers and sweets!

Andy blowing me a kiss while grilling our burgers!

Clint being kicked out of the kitchen by Teresa and Deb

Time to eat! Teresa fixing brownies, Mom directing traffic, and Granddaddy and Uncle Ray helping themselves!

After lunch we entertained ourselves with jumping on the trampoline and swinging on the swing behind the house in the beautiful Alabama weather!

Now, there is a lot happening in this video. Clint conquered the back flip but in the background Codie swings into the tree. hee hee! :)

Clint is going to work his way to doing a back tuck on the ground so he can celebrate all his touchdowns that way! ;)

The Day I Got a Flat

Codie said: "What is that noise?"

I said: "I think it is that truck."

Codie said: "I think it is your car!"

I turned down the blaring radio to hear that it is my car.

While Codie is busting out laughing!!! :)
I said: "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!"

We pull over to find a flat just a few short miles before the turn to the funeral home 3 minutes before 10AM.

My reaction to the flat!

My Mom came to pick us up and take us to the funeral home and then the graveside. After the graveside she took us back to my car to change the flat. I have no pics from the funeral b/c I left my beloved camera in my car with the flat tire. However, I did take pics with Mom's camera but fear I will never see them again as Mom has yet to put into practice loading them onto her computer and sharing them with the world... so they will be doomed to stay on her memory card for all time!! (Mom, if you send me the pics I will delete the comment above... you can redeem yourself!) :)

Oh this is what a tire should look like!
Not like this!!

The Day We Were Running Late

Codie, Clint, Colton and I woke up early Friday morning to get ready to go to Belgreen, Alabama for our Great Uncle's funeral. My Mom had told me the night before that the funeral started at 11 o'clock but Codie had just informed me that Mom had called her and said that it starts at 10 o'clock... and so the mad rush began. We jetted out the door and after grabbing breakfast at Hardee's we were off to Belgreen at 10 after 8.
